@CallMeMrLennox you know thats not true right?
The thickness of a single gold leaf is typically 0.0000035 inch (3.5 millionths of an inch), thats like a little more than one atom

  4. CallMeMrLennox says:

@tpstrat14 gold leaf is 1 atom thick. so ya its pretty thin

  5. Diosukekun says:

  7. tonykw says:

Yup- I can evaluate just by watching a video!

  8. archrono101 says:

@tonykw Gold does react with oxygen. This isn’t real gold, and getting gold to react with plain oxygen is a hassle (understatement), but gold does react with oxygen. The path to Au2O3 in nature is through the decomposition of other gold compounds.

  9. atnightifly says:

    I’m confused.

  10. peepeevagi says:

It’s what happens when you put foil in a microwave.
Gold foil is still foil, no exceptions.

Also, i can see why the Mclaren F1 had some fire issues early on, gold doesn’t sizzle. It’s just POOF and it starts to crumple. Resulting in engine bay fires. :D

  11. missElle95 says:

    wow!! it’s fantastic!

  12. teamzirbs6 says:

HAHA i like jolted when the first leaf went off. lol u should have seen

  13. Fr0stbite912 says:

Yep. I’ve had a real 24 ct gold plate in my microwave and it did not react at all. Do the fake gold sheets (Leaves) have any real gold in them at all?

  14. gamemeister27 says:

I accidentally put a plate with some gold leaf in it in a microwave once. Sparks were everywhere!

  15. tonykw says:

Gold leaf (24ct) does not react with oxygen and can’t burn. I’m an expert. Remember those? People who know more than you do about a subject. What you are looking at is fake gold leaf that sells at about $10 for 24 leaves. You stick it on with glue.

  16. LFSvidMan says:

do people always submit gold over youtube for your evaluation?

  17. tonykw says:

I’m a goldsmith with 30 years of experience. OK?

  18. LFSvidMan says:

You an expert on evaluating gold and other precious materials over the internet by watching videos?

  19. tonykw says:

    This isn’t gold leaf!

  20. JustAnotherKill says:

If you look into that light, you get blind right?

  21. Hazardflag02 says:

I just tried gold leaf 24k for 2 minutes and nothing happened. 1000 watt microwave too

  22. fermista says:

The gold would only be destroyed in a nuclear fusion/fission reaction.
The gold atoms are still there, but it’s probably not pure gold anymore, maybe something like a gold oxide instead.

  23. alincielo says:

This is really gold leaf or imitation gold?

  24. Nuninhoafs says:

No it didn’t, the gold leaf just electrocussed and the plates were intact xD

  25. Cre8iveSignWorks says:

so i spose it didnt crack or damage your plates?
just curious about this as i have an idea for an art project!!
