My ALL TIME FAV Gary sings what all us men have felt at one time or another. Anyone familiar with Gary Stewart and his tragic ending, KNOWS that when this guy sang love songs, he sang them from the heart… I met him breifly in Oklahoma City at a dinner showplace called “Henson’s” circa 1983 and was struck by how friendly and real this guy was. Gary, you will not be forgotten!

Why is it – and not just Gary – that so many performers sing their songs faster when they do them live? Relax…no need to rush…we love them the way you recorded them! (Guess it’s no use trying to tell him now. RIP, buddy…we miss you.)
Ok everybody -write the Country Music Hall of Fame and ask why he isn’t in there.
I agree, we’ve all felt like this before. Man Gary has a vibrato that’s out of this world but it fits this song soooo well. Love this song!

Every now and then there comes an artist on the music scene, who leaves a powerful and indelible imprint forever. Gary Stewart was one such artist!
- RJB, Nashville, TN. This program was probably in late 1975.
I don’t listen to country music but this guy was awesome!
great music! helps me cope from being away from home!
Didnt Garys wife pass away before him? It seems like he commited suicide after losing her. Like someone said he was the equal to george jones but he didnt have the whine in his voice george goes. Rip gary
thats when country music was about real life…
Been there! GS is great, thanks for sharing

Closest I came to seeing Gary Stewart was I stayed in a motel in Marshall, TX the night AFTER he and his band had been there! Ha! But I was and still am a huge fan. Used to play his tapes (!) until they wore out. What an absolutely topnotch artist he was. So sad to lose him early.
love this song! sitting here drinking again
I saw him 3 or 4 times at Gilleys in the 70’s … He was as unique as George Jones .. !! Great voice and sure sang about the bottle a lot … I guess maybe alcohol helped kill him .. Great Voice !!
First heard this song on a little radio station near Olympia, Washington while I was on a road trip. I had to write his name down, and the first thing I did when I got back to Seattle was track down his greatest hits. This guy is incredible.
Pop goes the country from 1975
It is from Pop goes the country. I think its from the late 70s.
This looks like Pop goes the country mid to late 70ies and yes this is real country not the crap of today with no heart. RIP Gary.

What a classic froma great singer!!
@001tucker I couldn’t agree more with you, being from Hazard Ky. I knew Gary, when I go home for a visit and go to a bar, all bands are doing Gary’s music. If you want to play in a Hazard honky tonk, you have.
Oh i wish this type Country was played on the radio today Joe Nichols is as close as it gets nowadays : i miss my jennings, campbell, atkins, reed, gilley, coe ;’(
