Honestly I would look at the EnV Touch. It is the upgraded model of the LG Voyager. They are basically the same phone but newer, faster and overall just a better phone.
From previous experience as I owned the Voyager they are decent phones just be careful with the screen they will crack. As for the ringtones, the way I did it was send myself a message with SOUND and then when you receieved the message hit save sound as ringtone and then you had yourself a ringtone.
Also when you receive a message you can view it on the outside touch screen before you open it up. Verizon is a good network and I was with them for nearly 9 years no real complaints. I would strongly suggest getting an extended warranty as my phone somehow broke at the hinge part. But it was replaced with ease by Verizon.

Do go to phonescoop web site & look up each phone.Click the review tab to read the reviews.
I have the Env2 actually. It is a good phone I find mainly for messaging. Env2 has been good to me for just about a year so far. Haven't had any issues with it either.
